Based in the heart of the Wyre Forest, KEMP Hospice provides a wide range of services, free of charge to the people of the Wyre Forest – supporting individuals, families and carers experiencing life limiting conditions and through bereavement.
The organisation has seven locations comprising of the hospice building, multiple retail sites and warehousing locations.
Initially Serveline carried out an information gathering exercise. This involved an assessment of the existing IT infrastructure and an engagement process with the charity’s staff with a view to understanding the IT challenges and issues being faced.
Following this a series of recommendations were made to address these issues and improve the IT platform at KEMP:
Migration of email to Exchange Online and deployment / configuration of Microsoft 365 features and services – deploying hybrid-cloud platform combining the best parts of 365 with on-premise infrastructure to improve security, reducing the total cost of platform by utilising not-for-profit licensing.
This allowed us to create a test environment for the business-critical application – Donorflex. The challenge here was that historically application changes and upgrades could only be applied to the live application server. By virtualising the on-premise server platform, we were able to create a test environment to safely test these updates before deploying to the live production environment and thus reducing the risk of outages and data loss.
On-premise virtual servers are replicated into the Azure Cloud via Microsoft Azure Replication Services (MARS) every five minutes – this has been done utilising the free Azure credits providing an enterprise class DR function with no ongoing cost. Backup – historical retention of data is provided via Microsoft Azure backup services – again utilising the available donation of Azure credits.
Serveline provide a fully managed IT service to KEMP Hospice – from end user support, helpdesk services and ticket resolution, through to board level IT consultancy, IT roadmap and long-term IT strategy via regular review meetings with the senior management team.
